Kristy Herman lives in southern Illinois. Extensive world travel and a passion for horses are what lead her to painting nature and equine art. She works most frequently with watercolor and ink, but enjoys a variety of mediums.
Kristy earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in 2000 where she excelled at her studies and intended to pursue a career in Graphic Design. However, after graduation she chose to serve in the US Air Force, where she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2001. After serving six years on active duty, Kristy was unexpectedly separated from the Air Force for medical reasons. She earned a Master of Business Administration in 2009, and transitioned to working in Federal Service for the Department of Defense. She currently works as a civilian for the US Air Force.
It is only recently that Kristy has started pursuing her art seriously again after a long break, but she has always found opportunities to use her artistic skills. Over the years, she has accepted the occasional commission and designed several projects for the Air Force. Several of her paintings have toured the country with the disabled veteran’s exhibit Battle Dress and have been on display at the Veteran’s Art Museum in Chicago as part of their Women Veterans collection. Kristy is an active member of the international Equine Artist collective Paard Verzameld, and the American Academy of Equine Art.
Kristy spends most of her free time at the stable with her ex-racehorse Beau and exploring the local area since she has only been living in the area for the past 3 years. Prior to moving to the area, Kristy spent 7 years living and working in Germany. She has traveled to over 50 countries and is anxious to start traveling again both nationally and internationally.
